Chinese researchers found that F-18 FDG-PET/CT maximum standardized uptake values combined with serum tumor markers yielded significantly increased sensitivity, specificity and area under the curve in assessing histological types of lung lesions, but either method alone had insufficient accuracy. The combined approach, described in PLOS One, may boost treatment of suspicious lung cancers and could help in the development of a noninvasive technique to accurately identify different lung lesions, researchers said.
