A study in The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology found elobixibat was safe and effective for chronic constipation. The drug, a minimally absorbed inhibitor of ileal bile acid transporter, was associated with a mean 6.4 bowel movements in the first week of a two-week treatment period, compared with 1.7 for study participants in a placebo group.
