Researchers at Georgia's Augusta University found that 22 of 30 patients in a small study published in Clinical and Translational Gastroenterology who regularly took probiotics reported being bloated and having difficulty concentrating. Gut bacteria was discovered in the small intestines of the patients, and patients' levels of D-lactic acid, which can be harmful to brain cells, were three times higher than normal. Read the study.
