Advisers and clients need to be aware of the different classifications for hospital stays and how they are covered under Medicare. Patients who are classified as outpatients under observation are covered by Medicare Part B, rather than Medicare Part A, meaning that less of their medical expenses will be covered and that any nursing home care after the hospital visit will not be covered.
