Southern, Georgia Power to decide fate of Vogtle project

Southern Co. and Georgia Power plan to file a recommendation on whether to continue construction of two new reactors at the Plant Vogtle nuclear power plant in Georgia with the state Public Service Commission later this month, indicating they may be in favor of continuing the project, writes Don McKee. "Adding the nuclear units give a much-desired quality to the state's integrated resource plan that is fuel diversity," said Thomas Fanning, chairman, president and CEO of Southern Co.
