Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group will invest about $15 billion in research and development over the next three years in a quest to stay competitive with Western-based rivals, including Amazon and Google parent Alphabet. Jeff Zhang, Alibaba's chief technology officer, will launch worldwide tech research and development labs called DAMO Academies.
