Swedish researchers followed 3,604 patients age 65 and older who were using prednisolone and found that those who were prescribed alendronate had a lower risk of hip fracture, compared with those who weren't. The findings, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, did not show any association between alendronate use and a higher risk of mild upper gastrointestinal tract symptoms.
