Children and teens younger than 18 should never take prescription cough medicine with opioids such as codeine and hydrocodone, the FDA said after conducting an extensive data review and receiving recommendations from its Pediatric Advisory Committee. The FDA urged parents to read medication labels and said manufacturers' labels must be clear that children and adolescents should not receive the drugs.
