Ointment shows promise in treating drug-resistant bacteria

An antibacterial gel containing SAAP-148, a chain of amino acids, may help fight strains of drug-resistant bacteria, according to findings published in Science Translational Medicine. The ointment was used successfully to treat Acinetobacter baumannii and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, both known to be resistant to antibiotics, in human skin samples and mice.
