Veterinarians help N.J. stem the tide of opioid abuse

The New Jersey Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners is working with the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy to standardize reporting of controlled substance prescriptions under the New Jersey Prescription Monitoring Program, enabling veterinarians to monitor prescriptions and identify signs of medication diversion. "Our doctors must authorize every refill or prescription that is dispensed to a pet," said veterinarian Scott Delaney. "Our doctors are very aware of the risk of human abuse."
