Kan. veterinary school sees uptick in raccoons with canine distemper

Owners in Kansas should ensure their dogs' distemper vaccinations are up to date and keep their pets away from raccoons, says veterinarian James Carpenter, professor of exotic pet, wildlife and zoological medicine at Kansas State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Animal control officers have been bringing two or three raccoons each week with canine distemper to Kansas State University's Veterinary Health Center.
