The Mesa County, Colo., Public Health Department is reminding pet owners to ensure their animals have up-to-date rabies vaccinations after another bat tested positive for rabies, bringing the total this year to three. Officials recommend keeping pets leashed, away from wild animals and indoors at night; contacting a veterinarian if a pet has come in contact with a wild animal; keeping trash cans securely closed; covering small openings in screens and houses; and avoiding contact with wild animals.
