AVMA President Dr. Michael Topper testified at a congressional hearing in support of reauthorizing FDA user fee programs, under which the FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine collects fees from drugmakers to fund review and postmarket surveillance of novel and generic drugs for animals. "With seven major species and innumerable minor species, all of which have many varied diseases and conditions to treat, veterinary access to FDA-approved medications for use in numerous diverse species is critical," Dr. Topper said.
