A recent study suggested chronic wasting disease might be transmissible to people, and hunters should have deer they kill checked for CWD, said veterinarian Keith Poulsen, diagnostic case and outreach coordinator at the University of Wisconsin's Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. CWD has been spreading through the state, and although the precise nature of any threat to humans is not clear, "it would be a mistake to ignore it," Dr. Poulsen said.
