The number of smart homes in North America is likely to rise from 31 million last year to 55% of all homes -- 73 million -- by 2021, Berg Insight forecasts. And this year should see solid growth, "as entry-level smart home systems have become affordable for the mass market at the same time as the reliability and features have improved significantly," says Berg analyst Anders Frick.
