Pratt & Whitney is investing $20 million to expand GTF maintenance, repair, and overhaul capacity of its West Palm Beach Engine Center. "The expansion at West Palm Beach is the latest example of our global investment to support the GTF fleet. We remain steadfast in our commitment to support customers and maintain their trust as we carry out the GTF fleet management plan," said Kevin Kirkpatrick, vice president of global aftermarket operations.

Airport Focus
North Palm Beach County Airport in West Palm Beach, Fla., plans to lengthen the diagonal runway from 4,300 feet to 6,000 feet to accommodate larger jets and rising aircraft operations. The $25 million project has undergone a draft environmental assessment, and the public will have until May 21 to offer opinions on the proposal.

Technology
The US Army has awarded a $1.9 million Small Business Innovation Research contract to Electra.aero for experiments with the company's nine-passenger, hybrid-electric aircraft. This contract, which follows similar agreements Electra has with AFWERX, involves powered wind tunnel testing of the aircraft's short takeoff and landing capabilities.

Brazilian ethanol producers have garnered international emissions certifications and are gearing up to provide feedstocks, largely made from sugar cane, to sustainable aviation fuel manufacturers. Brianna Anderson, a high-school junior in Marquette, Mich., has been awarded an $11,000 scholarship from the Experimental Aircraft Association that will help defray the cost of flight training. Anderson, who plans to apply to the US Air Force Academy, aims to inspire other young women to become pilots.
