Dinneen: Big Oil makes "bankrupt" arguments at House committee hearing
The oil industry purported its usual "bankrupt" claims about the Renewable Fuel Standard at Tuesday's House Science Committee hearing on the program, according to Bob Dinneen, Renewable Fuels Association president and CEO. "[Lawmakers from oil patch states] were sort of regurgitating the same old Big Oil talking points, but frankly, I don't think they resonated." Dinneen also claimed inaccuracies in arguments made during the hearing regarding ethanol's supposed effect on food prices and gasoline prices. WNAX-AM (Yankton, S.D.)

Rural voters in the Midwest are more likely to cast votes for candidates who support the Renewable Fuel Standard, according to a National Farmers Union poll. "We want the president to understand that this is not only the right policy for the environment but also will do damage to his party," Roger Johnson, NFU president, said of the need for President Barack Obama to get the Renewable Fuel Standard back on track. "Almost all of us in agriculture have been strong supporters of the RFS. If the president makes the wrong decision he is likely going to do an awful lot of damage to his candidates." Group Alto Alegre commercial director Luiz Gustavo Junqueira Figueiredo said that the weather will continue to reduce the cane crush.
