  • Developer announces changes at Maryland Live! casino
    The chairman of Cordish Cos., the developer and operator of the Maryland Live! Casino in Anne Arundel County, Md., announced that the gaming facility looks to hire an additional 1,200 workers as part of a plan to replace some of its 4,750 slot machines with 150 table games. David Cordish also said he is considering a plan to add a hotel and a convention space next to the casino. "You asked are we thinking about it.     Bally Technologies said its president, Ramesh Srinivasan, will add chief executive officer and board member to his responsibilities effective Dec. 31.   • Resorts Casino's Margaritaville project begins construction
    Crews began work Wednesday on the $35.5 million Margaritaville project at the Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J. The project includes a LandShark Bar & Grill at the site of the former Steeplechase Pier. Resorts spokeswoman Courtney Birmingham said that superstorm Sandy slightly delayed the start of construction but that the facility should be ready to open by Memorial Day.   • Mass. commission approves new casino strategic plan
    Members of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission have voted to approve a strategic plan for proposed casinos in the state. According to the 170-page document, the first casino in the state could open in three or four years. "The completion of this comprehensive and meticulous strategic plan represents another crucial milestone achieved by the commission as we steadily progress toward the arrival of expanded gaming and the establishment of an effective regulatory system," commission Chairman Stephen Crosby said.   • Chippewa tribe seeks dismissal of suit filed against its project
    The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians told a federal judge during a hearing Monday in Grand Rapids, Mich., that a lawsuit filed by Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette against the tribe's casino project in Lansing has no merit and should be dismissed. "These claims, which are based on the allegations that gaming activity the Tribe might someday conduct on the property would violate the law, are not ripe for adjudication because no gaming is occurring -- or can occur -- on the property now, and because any future gaming is far down the road and 'contingent on a number of factors,'" according to the tribe's brief.
