Many state health departments are implementing best practices and technological advancements to modernize their IT platforms, according to a survey published by Microsoft and the American Public Human Services Association. A Health Affairs survey showed a 50% increase in EMR use among primary care physicians in the U.S., although use is outpaced by that of some other countries where EMR use is nearly universal. - Industry stakeholders cite interoperability as a major concern
More than a quarter of 1,000 doctors, consumers and industry professionals surveyed by Greenway Medical Technologies cited interoperability as a top concern when using health IT systems. Other concerns raised by respondents include medical staff alignment and overall costs. "The report reinforces the need for hospitals and health care providers to take a lead role in three major trends impacting patient care -- data electronification, consumerism and population health improvement," said Greenway President and CEO Tee Green. - Project aims to give providers access to EHR training, loans
The American Health Information Management Association will collaborate with the Delta Regional Authority on a microloan program to help eligible providers purchase EHR systems. Loans of $5,000 or $7,500 will be provided by DRA to serve as a down payment for a system, and AHIMA will provide education. Healthcare IT News

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute has announced $12 million in funding to about 14 projects aimed at bridging the gaps in clinical outcomes research.
