- 3 companies to present casino plans in Springfield, Mass., next month
Springfield, Mass., has scheduled a public presentation of casino plans from three companies hoping to build a gaming facility in the city. Residents and business owners will be allowed to question Ameristar Casinos, MGM Resorts International and Penn National Gaming about their proposed developments on Dec. 11. "We are thrilled to welcome three high quality casino developers to present their proposals to the residents and businesses of the City of Springfield," Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno said. - Wynn visits Everett, Mass., to view possible casino site
Steve Wynn toured Everett, Mass., on Wednesday to view a possible casino site on the Mystic River. "I remind most of you that in my business the development makes the destination. The kind of facilities we build become destinations unto themselves," Wynn said when asked about probable customers of the planned facility. Wynn, who didn't make any definite commitments, said that discussions with the city are preliminary. "Massachusetts has become very interesting to my company," he said. - Deadwood, S.D., casinos report 4% revenue jump
The total gross revenue of casinos in Deadwood, S.D., grew 4% to $9.4 million in October, compared with $9 million in the same month last year. Factors contributing to the growth were mild weather and the Deadwood Chamber of Commerce promotion of several well-attended events, said Chuck Turbiville, director of Deadwood Lead Economic Development Corp. - Atlantic City, N.J., prepares for Christmas with holiday decorations
Crews have started to spruce up several places in Atlantic City with decorations as the Christmas season nears. The embellishment is part of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority's holiday plans for the city. "We really wanted to have Christmas lights that blow away all the gloom we had in the past and to show that we are back, open for business and this will be a good holiday season for everyone," said Don Guardian, CRDA Special Improvement Division's executive director. - Expansion of Choctaw Casino in Pocola, Okla., spurs new jobs
The $60 million expansion of the Choctaw Casino in Pocola, Okla., will add more than 350 new jobs to the town. "We added about 80 staff on this first phase and we're picking up almost another 300 employees between now and May when the hotel opens," said Barrett DeFay, who works with Choctaw Casinos. - Netherlands plans to sell casinos, legalize Internet gambling
The Netherlands plans to sell its Holland Casino properties and legalize online gambling to spur competition in the Dutch state. "It is unclear at this stage if it will be a sale or an initial public offering. The government hasn't decided how the sale will take place," said Justin Franssen, a lawyer who specializes in the gaming sector. Holland owns 14 casinos in cities, including Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
