- P&G sachets provide clean water for pennies
Procter & Gamble has pioneered sachets that purify 10 liters of water in 20 minutes, at a cost of three and a half cents per packet. The company is working with humanitarian groups, including World Vision, Care and Save the Children, to deliver the sachets to communities where poor water quality is linked to illness and death. - EU affirms safety of Monsanto's modified corn
The EU Food Safety Authority says it will not pursue a ban on genetically modified corn from Monsanto, saying a study linking the corn to cancer in rats was flawed. "Conclusions cannot be regarded as scientifically sound because of inadequacies in the design, reporting and analysis of the study as outlined in the paper," according to the authority.
