- Cloud providers are optimistic, survey finds
Companies that offer cloud services expect to see strong sales over the next two years, with providers forecasting a doubling of revenues through 2014, according to a recent survey. The poll of 179 cloud companies, conducted by KPMG International, suggests the growth will be propelled by demand for a host of services -- including content management, customer care and analytics -- and that the biggest challenge facing providers is unrealistic cost-savings expectations of prospective customers. - BYOD is about secure access to apps and data, Dell exec says
 The "bring your own device" era of enterprise IT infrastructure means being able to support iPads and some other mobile devices with secured access to applications and internal data, says Carol Fawcett, chief information officer for Dell Software. "You can't support every device somebody will bring in. You have to step back and recognize that if you attempt to support every single device, your cost for an IT department will just raise up so high," Fawcett says. CIO.com

- Private app stores are empowered with Google Play
Businesses can host their own application stores via a Private Channel feature of Google Play. The feature could give Google's Android an edge against Apple's iOS in allowing enterprises to distribute Android apps throughout a company with administrative control for a $25 registration fee. - Developers of mobile apps turn to analytics for guidance
Mobile-application developers are getting advice from firms that specialize in analyzing games and other applications to see what makes them engaging or useful, Olga Kharif writes. The field is small but growing rapidly. Atlantic Bridge, Intel Capital and others last month invested $6.25 million in Swrve, which advises Activision Blizzard and other clients. - Zombie PCs responsible for most Web-based malware, Sophos says
More than 80% of cyberattacks in 2012 were delivered from legitimate websites that had been co-opted by hackers, according to a report from Sophos. The finding is part of the firm's Security Threat Report 2013, which reveals that the majority of malware infections last year required victims to do little more than click on a link in an e-mail or visit an infected website.
