  • Kaleidescape enters streaming with multiyear Warner Bros. deal
    Kaleidescape, a provider of high-end home theater equipment, has entered into a licensing deal with Warner Bros. Digital Distribution that will give it access to a library of roughly 3,000 films and 8,000 TV episodes. Under the multiyear agreement -- which includes support for the nascent Ultraviolet standard -- users of Kaleidescape's media servers will be able to stream and download popular titles such as the "Harry Potter" series and "The Lord of the Rings," marking a first for the company.     The digital marriage of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News at Philly.com will dissolve in the next quarter as both newspapers plan sites with paid subscription models.     A group of nine smartphone makers, equipment firms and chipmakers lobbied Congress to free up additional frequencies for wireless use beyond the TV spectrum auction that federal regulators are preparing.
