- Messaging Mark Zuckerberg could cost you
People who attempt to send Mark Zuckerberg a message on Facebook report being asked to pay a $100 fee to ensure the message isn't routed to Zuckerberg's "Other" folder. Facebook has been testing a $1 fee for out-of-network messages, but this higher fee -- which appears to only be asked of people who aren't following Zuckerberg on the network -- may suggest that the network is mulling "another version of this plan," Nicholas Carlson writes. Will marketers warm to Facebook's paid-messaging service?: Facebook's messaging function has received a lukewarm response, with about 26% of users saying they use the service "very often" and 90% saying they wouldn't be willing to pay $1 to send a message to someone who wasn't a part of their network. The service might have more appeal for marketers, however. "Now that marketers can pay to appear on a user's newsfeed, the ability to send relevant and targeted private messages to likers of their brand -- rather than simply respond to user posts or messages -- may soon be on the horizon," this unbylined article says. eMarketer
