- ONC releases Blue Button Plus adoption guide
An initial technical guide for the adoption of Blue Button Plus was recently revealed by the ONC. Blue Button Plus, a rebranding of the agency's Automated Blue Button Initiative, includes view, download and data sharing functions in providers' certified EHRs to help them satisfy the meaningful use stage 2 requirements. - Universal American subsidiary adds 15 ACOs
The number of accountable care organizations formed by Universal American subsidiary Collaborative Health Systems has reached 31 after it completed ACO deals with 15 groups of doctors. "Our work with these 31 ACOs will allow us to use our core capabilities in the areas of care coordination, provider partnerships and health care analytics for the benefit of providers and the Medicare fee-for-service patients served by these providers," said Universal American CEO Richard Barasch. - Aetna finalizes ACO deal with Optimus HealthCare
An accountable care deal between Optimus HealthCare in New Jersey and Aetna has been finalized. Around 11,900 members of Aetna who, in the past two years, have seen Optimus doctors will be covered by the ACO, which offers rewards to physicians for satisfying care quality objectives such as lessening readmissions and emergency department visits. - Cisco boosts telemedicine with updated platform
Cisco has updated its HealthPresence tool to help health care groups tailor their telemedicine platforms and form a telehealth network. "Cisco HealthPresence 2.5 offers our customers incredible flexibility to build the right solution for their telehealth initiatives," said David Plummer, global business leader for Cisco HealthPresence. - Minn. company unveils telemedicine service in Mich.
An online telehealth service was recently launched in Michigan by Minnesota-based company virtuwell to give patients access to experienced nurse practitioners at any time of day. The service, which costs $40 a visit, employs NPs who can diagnose a limited list of conditions, such as bladder infections, sinus infections and eczema. Detroit Free Press

- Utah's health agency confirms another data breach
The Utah Department of Health announced its second data breach in less than 12 months, which has affected about 6,000 Medicaid patients. The breach occurred when a USB device was lost by an employee at third-party contractor Goold Health Systems.
