- Poll: Americans back government efforts to boost health
About 80% of Americans support government initiatives that aim to reduce childhood obesity, while 84% say the government should help diabetes patients better manage their condition, a survey in Health Affairs indicates. The survey also found that 84% said the government should make it easier to afford fruits and vegetables, 89% said children should get more lessons on the health risks of obesity and 88% said schools should provide least 45 minutes of physical education daily for children. - Incentive program helps children get more physical activity
Participation in an incentive-based outdoor intervention yielded modest improvements in children's physical activity, researchers from Singapore found. Despite helping children meet activity goals, the intervention did not improve BMI or boost the overall health of the participants. The findings appear in The Journal of Pediatrics. Reuters

A survey by National Public Radio, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Harvard School of Public Health revealed 25% of U.S. parents tell their children to eat all the food on their plates, while 45% put restrictions on certain foods. A survey conducted by Nuance Communications found 80% of participating physicians said virtual assistants would alter the way they utilize health care applications and EHRs over five years. The American Diabetes Association is pleased to announce the online availability of several decades' worth of legacy content from Diabetes, the Association's flagship research journal. Before completion of the Diabetes legacy project, PDFs were available online only for articles published in 2000 and later. Now, searchable PDF files of an additional 477 issues published between 1952 and 1999, comprising more than 8,500 articles and 60,000 pages of content, are accessible at http://diabetes.diabetesjournals.org.
