Exercise may lower cardiac mortality risk in diabetes
Norwegian researchers found adults with diabetes were two to three times as likely as those without the condition to die from cardiovascular disease. However, diabetes patients who reported one to two hours of weekly exercise had a similar risk as inactive adults who didn't have diabetes, researchers wrote in Diabetes Care. Being white, male raises diabetes amputation risk, study says
A British study found an increased risk of lower-limb amputation for diabetes patients who were white, male or lived in deprived communities. White men in poorer areas who have diabetes should have their feet checked annually, receive education on foot ulcers and understand the importance of seeking care for foot problems early, researchers said at the Diabetes UK Professional Conference. Review highlights pharmacists' role in diabetes care
Pharmacists' interventions can help boost blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes patients, and pharmaceutical care may be associated with improvements in quality of life for such patients, researchers report in Clinical Audit. "The improvement in diabetes control achieved by the pharmacists' interventions are likely to translate into future cost savings to the health care system by delaying and reducing diabetes-related complications," the authors write. The researchers reviewed 17 assessments of interventions by pharmacists acting as part of a team or alone. DailyRx.com (3/14)
