AMA backs off call for end to DTC pharmaceutical ads

The AMA is signaling it will not call for an end to the practice of marketing drugs directly to consumers, at its annual conference later this month in Chicago. Two resolutions drafted at last year's conference asked AMA members to back a complete ban on DTC ads, but while an AMA report to be delivered at the 2006 conference calls for many modifications in current DTC advertising practices, it does not call for an outright ban.
