Victoria Tifft, who was inspired to start her vaccine-research business Clinical Research Management after she contracted malaria, was recently named the Small Business Administration's 2012 National Small Business Person of the Year. Her company has grown to include more than 330 employees since it opened in 1992, and it brought in $40 million in revenue in 2010. "One of our mantras is: 'Do the right thing,' " she said.
