UbiquiTel would like to be everywhere at once, but for now it concentrates on offering wireless phone service in the western and Midwestern US. The company is the exclusive provider of Sprint Nextel's wireless service in midsized and small markets in California, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Nevada, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming; it has about 448,000 subscribers. In 2006 Sprint Nextel acquired UbiquiTel in a deal valued at $1.3 billion. Under its agreement with Sprint Nextel prior to the acquisition, UbiquiTel constructs and manages Sprint's PCS network and sells wireless service under the Sprint brand. The company also sells wholesale wireless service to resellers such as Virgin Mobile and Qwest Wireless.
