Consolidated will pay $341 million for SureWest

Regional carrier SureWest Communications has agreed to a sale to Consolidated Communications in a deal valued at $341 million, excluding debt, the companies disclosed today. The Mattoon, Ill.-based Consolidated offers voice, DSL and IPTV services to customers in Illinois, Pennsylvania and Texas while SureWest serves 130,000 residential subscribers and 15,700 businesses in Sacramento, Calif., and the greater Kansas City, Mo., market. SureWest investors can cash out for about $23 a share -- a 47% premium to Friday's closing stock price -- or take Consolidated shares.
