Nokia, Motorola eye services, software
Handset makers Nokia and Motorola have signaled through recent acquisitions their desire to expand beyond their core business areas into services, software and content. "They very much don't want to be providers of pure hardware," said IDC analyst Geoff Blaber. "They have had to move to the next level, to focus on the services enabled on the devices, their integration with the fixed Internet world and the overall user experience."
