Cisco's investments designed to push into CE market

Cisco Systems has traditionally used acquisitions to enter markets quickly, but since entering the consumer electronics market in 2003 with the purchase of Linksys, Cisco has invested in 14 startups. The CE strategy has also included acquisitions of cable set-top box maker Scientific-Atlanta and network-based DVD and DVR maker Kiss Technology. The company is also looking at partnerships to help it access content and security technology.
