Merger-and-acquisition activity has totaled $1.53 trillion thus far in 2006, with several types of companies participating in deals, including several technology companies. In the mobile space, for instance, RealNetworks snapped up WiderThan and Sprint Nextel Corp. purchased Nextel Partners.
