USDA awards $25M in grants to 4 bioenergy research projects
The Department of Agriculture awarded grants amounting to $25 million to four projects that aim to develop fuel and other products from biomass. Among those awarded the grants was the USDA's Agricultural Research Service, Eastern Regional Research Center in Pennsylvania, which was awarded $6,865,942 for developing technology to convert forest residues, horse manure, switchgrass and other perennial grasses into biofuels and chemicals on the farm. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack made the announcement at the commissioning of a Renmatix multifeedstock processing plant in King of Prussia, Pa.
