Big Boards' Loss is MediaJobs.net's Gain
NEW YORK, Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Does size matter, when it comes to online job searching? According to industry watchdogs, employers and job seekers are finding that bigger isn't necessarily better, and upstart companies like MediaJobs.net are taking advantage of the changing trend.
According to Brian Wool from the ClickZNetwork, the fastest-growing names in online recruitment are specialized job sites, threatening the bigger online recruiters that have dominated the industry.
"Just three years ago sites like Monster, HotJobs, and CareerBuilder had the lion's share of the job-search market," said Wool. "According to recent comScore numbers, these three sites now make up less than 50 percent of the market share."
While traffic to the big boards is slowing, industry-focused and regional job boards are growing, and that's good news for MediaJobs.net, a site that offers more than 10,000 jobs in the fields of media, marketing, advertising and public relations.
"While the internet continues to be the first step for online job seekers, employers get more bang for their buck in targeted sites," says Brendan Delaney, president of Evergreen Interactive LLC, which owns MediaJobs.net and several other job boards. "They're more likely to find a targeted audience of qualified candidates than on the broad-based sites."
Job seekers also see the value in a focused approach. "As they become more sophisticated in their job searching techniques," said Delaney, "they recognize that local or industry-focused sites offer the same functionality as the big guys, while saving time and yielding better results."
MediaJobs.net also serves as the flagship site for the MediaJobs Network, which contains more than 20 regional job boards, including NYMediaJobs.com, SanFranMediaJobs.com, PhillyMediaJobs.com, AtlantaMediaJobs.com, and SeattleMediaJobs.com.
The MediaJobs sites are all powered by Beyond.com, creating an additional benefit for employers: their jobs are added to the Beyond.com database, which is utilized by a network of websites that reach over 3 million unique U.S. visitors each month. This alliance gives the MediaJobs Network the ability to offer advertisers targeted regional placements, as well as the broad reach offered by its larger competitors.
