Expert warns on dangers of medical identity theft

Medical identity theft can lead to financial losses for both health providers and patients and possibly even treatment errors that can cause fatalities, said Cori Loomis, former general counsel for the Oklahoma State Medical Association. Loomis suggests a few simple steps that physicians and patients can take to minimize the risk of medical identity theft, such as requiring a photo ID with health insurance cards and being careful about providing personal information.
