Mentors can help physicians deal with burnout, expert says
Physician burnout rates are increasing. To address the issue, doctors need to know the symptoms, step back to refocus their efforts on their patients and talk with a mentor, says Dr. Paul Griner, professor emeritus of medicine at the University of Rochester. Griner, who has established mentor programs at several facilities, said the lesson he learned from going through burnout was how important it is to share feelings and frustrations with someone else.
