Microscopic life discovered in Antarctic lake far beneath ice
Researchers have discovered bacteria in Lake Whillans, which lies deep under the ice in Antarctica -- a discovery that could provide clues as to how extraterrestrial life might be able to survive. "It transforms the way we view the Antarctic continent," said John Priscu of Montana State University. DNA analysis and other tests may provide more information as to the nature of the microbes, Priscu said.
