HHS to meet Oct. 1 deadline for exchanges, Sebelius says
HHS doesn't need a backup plan as it will meet the principal Affordable Care Act deadline of Oct. 1, Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told the House Ways and Means Committee on Friday. Multiple states are ready to take over health insurance exchanges after they are built by the federal government despite the initial refusal of many states to run their own exchanges, Sebelius said. A $1.5 billion budget is being sought by HHS for the federal exchange, but the money is not likely to be given by Congress.
