Study: Oral contraceptives can double stroke risk in women

A review of studies found the use of birth control pills can increase the risk of stroke 1.9 times among women of childbearing age. The risk was even higher for women who took birth control pills and smoked or had high blood pressure or a history of migraines, the report found.
