Birth defects, stillbirths raise children's brain tumor risk

Compared with children without birth defects, those born with defects had about a fourfold increased risk of a primitive neuroectodermal tumor and a more than sixfold increased risk of germ cell tumors, a study in Pediatrics indicated. Children born to mothers who experienced at least two stillbirths had about a threefold higher risk of certain brain or spinal tumors compared with other children, the researchers found.
