Anorexia has highest death rate among eating disorders

Anorexia nervosa carries the highest risk of death among all eating disorders and is a key predictor of mortality if patients are between 20 and 29 at first presentation, U.K. researchers reported in the Archives of General Psychiatry. Increased mortality rates also were seen with bulimia and other eating disorders, and researchers found a high suicide rate among those with anorexia.
