Appendectomy, tonsillectomy are tied to increased heart attack risk

Researchers associated tonsillectomy and appendectomy performed in youths below age 20 to a 44% and 33% increase, respectively, in the relative long-term risk of heart attack. The study in the European Heart Journal found that the risk for heart attack was further increased in those who had both procedures.
