Integrated obesity, eating disorder prevention program cost-effective

Implementing a school-based program called Planet Health to combat obesity would prevent one case of bulimia nervosa among 254 girls ages 10 to 14 involved in a study. The result of that prevention would be health care savings and improved quality of life, according to the study. Researchers wrote in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine that the intervention "is not only more cost-effective than previously assessed but also generates net savings to society when the other cost savings are not even considered."
