Railroads salute America’s military, highlight job opportunities for those coming home

This Memorial Day, the Association of American Railroads salutes the men and women who have served in our military, and it remains committed to its almost 200-year practice of hiring members of the United States armed forces. Today, roughly 25% of all rail employees have military service, and AAR estimates that one in five of the more than 15,000 people freight railroads expect to hire this year also will have served in our military. AAR reports mixed weekly rail traffic

The Association of American Railroads on Thursday reported mixed weekly rail traffic for the week ending May 19, with U.S. railroads originating 280,565 carloads, down 5% compared with the same week last year. Intermodal volume for the week totaled 241,664 trailers and containers, up 3.1% compared with the same week last year. Read more.


Freight rail, shipper organizations bestow annual hazardous material handling honors

AAR reports mixed rail traffic for April

The Association of American Railroads on Thursday reported U.S. rail carloads originated in April 2012 totaled 1,113,105, down 64,335 carloads or 5.5%, compared with April 2011. Intermodal volume in April 2012 was 946,951 trailers and containers, up 32,505 units or 3.6%, for the same period. Read more.
