Official: Further study to precede next Pittsburgh school closures
Pittsburgh Superintendent Mark Roosevelt said more study -- including academic considerations -- will occur before any action is taken on an outside consultant's recommendations on the next wave of closures of Pittsburgh schools. The private planning firm is expected to recommend schools for closure based on enrollment projections and maintenance issues. A controversial "right-sizing" effort by Roosevelt in June 2006 resulted in the closure of 22 district schools and 18 buildings.
