FDA warns food safety will suffer because of budget cut
A $209 million budget cut at the FDA as a result of sequestration will lead to fewer food-safety inspections, Commissioner Margaret Hamburg says. The cut will mean an 18% reduction in inspections compared with 2012. Other effects include a delay to implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act and a longer approval process for drugs.
