Climate legislation threatens U.S. chemical industry, ACC's Dooley says
Executives from the refining and petrochemical industries warned during a Senate hearing that the climate-change bills pending in Congress will adversely affect their industries. "Because chemistry companies rely on natural gas for heat and power and as a raw material or feedstock, we will pay more for allowances, fuel and feedstock," said Cal Dooley, American Chemistry Council president. "This 'triple whammy' of higher costs will make us significantly less competitive with producers overseas, costing U.S. jobs and increasing global emissions," Dooley added.
