Sustainable bioplastics will see boost in demand, study says
Demand for bioplastics will increase to 900,000 metric tons in 2013 as prices of fossil fuels rise, according to a report from Freedonia Group. A primary demand driver, however, is the need for nonbiodegradable bioplastics, eyed as a possible alternative to conventional plastic bags. The report indicates that global demand for bioplastics grew more than 15% each year from 2003 to 2008, and it is expected to grow 35.1% annually from this year through 2013.
